Menyambut ceremony

The "menyambut" ceremony went off well last night at Cyberview Lodge. About 380 guests attended, mostly family members and friends (local and overseas from UK, Italy, Russia, Denmark, Australia & Singapore). The setting was a blend of cultures - English garden party, "gamelan" music, Malay dances and Chinese dinner. A big surprise to many because they are used to a Malay wedding being very Malay.

Money grow on trees

I love to tell this story. In my early teens, my father hardly ever gave me pocket money. When I asked him for some, he would simply say "There, on the trees". No amount of crying helped. So from an early age I had to learn to earn my own money.

Actually, money did grow on trees – banana trees, durian trees, rambutan, langsat, mangosteen trees and rubber trees. Although the fruit trees have their seasons, our banana plantation seems to be fruiting all year round. So with a bit of determination and sweat, I'd go up the hill behind our house and bring down a few tandans of bananas to sell them to the local towkay – who came on his bicycle or sometimes a motorbike – to buy my bananas or durians or whatever. So even as a teenager, I was pretty well off. That was in the early 50's.

Zaki got married yesterday

The ceremony at the Sime Darby Convention Centre for Zaki and Sabrina's Akad Nikah and wedding reception went off well yesterday morning and night.

There was an anti-ISA illegal demo in town where some 10,000 people (mostly PR supporters) disrupted traffic flow. Raja Fuaddin, our spokesman was late because of this stupid demo. At night there was a rock concert by Any Search at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian club, where more than 2,000 fans double- and triple-parked along the road leading towards the Convention Centre. Again some guests were late for the reception.

Thank god, everything went off ok, although a little late.

Here are some photos of the two events.

Welcome

With this blog, I hope my relatives, especially the younger generations, will enjoy knowing each other and perhaps contribute to further research and building of our family tree.

Feel free to contact me by e-mail, fax or snail-mail with information especially names, dates, place names, photos, addresses and the likes. You need not be very accurate to start off with, because all information can be updated.

I've found this to be a fascinating past time. The information documented will serve as valuable references to all of us.

I am really looking forward to building the Family Tree and sharing the fruits of my labour with you all. A CD will be made available to those that wish to have it.

You may wish to build your own family tree, and I am certainly willing to share the relevant information to help you do that.

Thank you and kind regards.
